MINISTRIES | Missions
Shawnee Baptist Church has been involved in missions since its founding in 1976. Started as the first USA church plant of mission agency Association of Baptists for World Evangelism, Shawnee called its first pastor, Robert Dyer, as he returned from the mission field in Papua New Guinea. Shortly after Shawnee provided financial support to its first missionary, and has always made missions a high priority. The church currently supports 17 active and 10 retired missionaries in 16 countries spread throughout 6 continents. Over the years, 6 couples and one single have been sent from within our own congregation to serve full time.
Shawnee's interest in missions goes beyond financial support. Over the years, Shawnee has sent teams to Peru, The Chad, Papua New Guinea, Chile, Germany, Canada, Italy, Argentina, Ghana, Jamaica, Brazil, and to ministries here in the USA. The teams, composed of high schoolers and adults, have assisted missionaries through construction projects, evangelism, canvasing, and other special needs. Our pastors have visited our missionaries in Italy, Portugal, England and Germany.
To continue to promote missions within our own congregation, we hold a missions conference each year. Missionaries are invited to share their ministries in order to gain valuable prayer support, and to awaken us to God's call to be fishers of men.
